The Montauk Project is an improv based collection of musicians from all over longisland, The core of the group generates organic based grooves to build conversations with other musicians who sit in. This is not in the jazz idiom. This is also the only improv band I know of on Long Island with a long standing gig. This original project takes place at The Velvet Lounge in east setauket. This has been happening every wed night at 10:30 for the past two years. Directions from east or west- LIE to exit 62 north, follow all the way straight to 25A, make a right, located directly on the right, ( aka the curry club} If you are a fan of improv jam based music, this group is worth checking out, there is no cover charge.
